Imus Has Been Suspended!
by: askCrystal
Apr 9, 2007 3:49pm

There will be no more Imus in the morning starting Monday!

After making racially insensitive remarks about the basketball team for Rutgers University, Jesse Jackson, the NAACP and, yes, of course Al Sharpton and African Americans all over are calling for disciplinary action against shock-jock Don Imus. But, just like Michael Richards, Imus has offered the faceless African-American public an insincere apology.

Since I do not listen to the trash that Imus considers entertainment (and I presume most of the readership here probably doesn't either), I'll tell you who he is. He's a radio show personality who is extremely popular for being cranky and nasty and all things undesirable in the morning. He is the radio show personality that referred to the African-American basketball players for Rutgers University as "nappy-headed hos" and "rough girls".

His outrageousness attracts all the weenies and wedgy-wearers around the country that won't hire your children when they are grown and who fired your grandmother just because they CAN -- all with the hidden reason being their belief that certain people (like nappy headed hos) have a certain place in this world. Another underlying belief of the Imus types is that black folks just need to get over their sensitivity.

NBC Nightly News has reported that the network has suspended Imus for two weeks beginning Monday. He has not been fired. If he is fired, he will probably be rehired. Maybe instead of pursuing education, starting businesses or doing work that is "good" for society, the new way to obtain wealth or job security (like Imus) is to simply learn a few racial insults and speak them over the air in a way that appeals to bigots. Let's call it humor or entertainment and protect these freedoms of speech and freedoms of expression.

Those basketball players are college-educated young women. Was this an attempt by Imus to put a few of our educated youth back in their place -- the place those unaccepting of our humanness long for? Does Imus get away with this because the bigots in his audience have money and need an outlet? These are not a trick questions! If we required separation to keep us powerless, why does the FCC continue to allow bigots to unite and gain power?

Yes, the ignorant are increasingly gaining their voice on air. With history in mind, yes knowing that we had something to say, but our voices were prevented from collectively demanding anything progressive, what kind of argument is it today for white sponsors to allow Imus (and others like him) to continue spewing racially insensitive insults at African Americans?

The Imus in the morning show reaches upwards of 350,000 viewers a quarter in its simulcast on MSNBC, which is owned by NBC. That is according to figures presented in 2006.

You told everybody you know about the Imus racial insults, didn't you? How many people know about your mama's or your brother's business? Did the radio show you listen to give them a free shout-out while they were convincing you to buy Geico, Target, Murachan and Honda?

If Imus is not fired, his sponsors will continue to define bigotry as a valuable.
